Linarol Consort of Viols with Héloïse Bernard
Epitaph For A Green Lover:
Music from the songbooks of Margaret of Austria
Saturday 26th, 7.30pm, Marlborough Road Methodist Church, OX16 5BZ
|
Celebrating the remarkable life of Margaret of Austria, one of the 16th century’s greatest patrons of the arts, this programme brings her world to life through music from manuscripts connected to her court. Margaret loved dancing and singing, but above all she adored her green parrot. The title comes from the poignant chanson Soubz ce tumbel, with a tragic text by her court poet Jean Lemaire, from Epitaphe de l’Amant Vert. Performed on Renaissance viols with rebec, pipes, and drums, the programme presents songs and instrumental music in a vivid musical story.
