Elizabeth Kenny & Nardus Williams
In the Shadow of the Tower
|
This recital was inspired by the many voices and ghosts that inhabit the Tower of London. Royal stories and myths were embodied in statues named the Line of Kings, to the sound of echoing trumpets and the opulent intimacy of voice and lute. But it was also a place where poets wrote in solitude and dissidents ruminated on their lives while they awaited death. Rommi Smith's words, the Blacke Songes, set to music by Roderick Williams, conjures up some of the lost voices of Tudor London. We present them alongside music from Henry VIII to Charles II.
